家紋には集約された伝統美と、祖先の魂が宿っている、と言えるのではないだろうか。
[It probably means that traditional beauty and the soul of the ancestor which are gathered and summarized have resided in the house crest.]
My Family calls this Maru ni Mokkoku, though it is commonly called Mokkou.
[Translation by a person in Tokyo by email]
I lost the furigana on this.
Mokkou Crest:
Some people say this design shows the cross-section of the cucumber, because you can read these Chinese characters (Moku + kou) as 'Kiツ + uri'(cucumber).ツ The truth is, this design shows the bird-nest on the ground, and this design has been used as a traditional pattern on the straw curtain in the shinto-shrines (the upper hem of the straw curtain is called 'Mokou', though chinese characters are different). The bird nest means your family will flourish (new lives are born here), and God will bless this crest, because the same pattern is used in many shinto-shrines.
